# Give Users API Access in Marketing Cloud Intelligence

An API token is required to perform actions via the Intelligence API. An admin must enable API access for a user to generate a token.

1. To the right of the navigation bar, click the dropdown arrow and select **Manage Users**.
2. Select the user, and click the pencil icon.
3. Under Permissions, select the type of access allowed for this user.
    
    - Enable API Access—The user can access an external service account. When enabled, the license model is enforced and validated. If you disable access, the Token API is automatically deactivated.
    - API Access Only—The user can’t generate a token. Only an account admin with the Manage Users permission can generate the user’s external token.
