# Group External Data in the Mapping Visualizer

The Mapping visualizer groups the data in the External Data column by Source Type by default. If you have defined custom attributes, you can group by an attribute instead.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small permission">
        <colgroup>
          <col style="width:50%">
          <col style="width:50%">
        </colgroup>
        <thead class="slds-text-title_caps ">
          <tr class="">
            <th scope="colgroup" class="slds-cell-wrap" colspan="2" style="text-align:center;vertical-align:top;" id="d97049e38">User Permissions Needed</th>
          </tr>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
          <tr class="">
            <td data-label="User Permissions Needed" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d97049e38 ">To use the Data Mapping Visualizer:</td>

            <td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d97049e38 ">Admin</td>

          </tr>
        </tbody>
      </table>

For example, if your workspace has a large number of TotalConnect data streams that are ingesting data from different sources, you can group by an attribute to filter the view.

1. Click the menu icon and select the custom attribute you want to group by.
2. If you group by a custom attribute that wasn’t configured for the source, the source is grouped under a value named Empty.
