# Data Load Modes

When Marketing Cloud Intelligence receives new data, it checks whether the dates contained in the file are new or if they overlap with a previous file that was processed. If the dates are new, the information is added to the data stream. If the dates are already accounted for, the specified load mode determines how the new data is displayed.

These load modes are available.

- **Replace**—Overwrites the existing data with the new data based on overlapping dates. This mode is the default, and the most commonly used.
- **Upsert**—Inserts the new data by updating the main entity keys that exist in previous files. New main entity keys are inserted as new rows of data.
- **Incremental**—Adds the new data alongside the old data.
- **Total Replace**—Deletes the existing data every time data is ingested.

- **[Apply a Data Load Mode to Your Data Stream](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.dato_data_load_mode_apply.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Configure how new data updates the existing data in the data stream.
- **[Incremental Data Load Mode](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.dato_data_load_mode_incremental.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
If you want to add new data alongside the old data, use the incremental data load mode. With this mode, the new file supplements the old measurement data.
- **[Use Cases for Incremental Load Mode](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.dato_data_load_mode_increment_use_case.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Refer to the these use cases when using incremental load mode.
- **[Upsert Data Load Mode](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.dato_data_load_mode_upsert.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
The upsert data load mode inserts new data by updating main entity keys that exist in previous files. With this mode, two actions are performed: update and insert. Measurement data linked to main entity keys that exist in the previous file is updated, and then new main entity keys are inserted as new rows of data.
