5. Assign one of these roles to each of the selected users.
    - Marketer-Standard: Only users with the Marketing Cloud Admin or Marketing Cloud Manager permission sets can be added in this role. Only members with this role can activate flows in campaigns in the business unit. In the marketing workspaces of the business unit, these users have the Content Manager role and can create, edit, view, and publish content in the workspace.

Note You can't add the user as a Marketer-Standard member if the permission set is assigned through a permission set group or if the user has a custom permission set, including a clone of a supported standard permission set. See [Assign Permission Sets](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_admin_setup_perms_assign.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "After you set up data streams, create users and assign permissions. To make sure that users have access to the right objects and features, use the Marketing Cloud Admin or Marketing Cloud Manager permission sets. You can assign permission sets to individual users or assign them in bulk.").
    - Marketer-ReadOnly: Members with this role can't activate campaigns in the business unit. They can send promotional messages and view performance dashboards. They don't have access to the marketing workspaces in the business unit. You can provide this role to non-marketing users, such as sales reps and other Salesforce users. See [Distributed Marketing and Alerts](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_dm_overview.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
6. Confirm that each user that you selected has a required permission set, and then click **Next**. If a user doesn't qualify, assign a required permission set and repeat steps 1–4. See [Assign Permission Sets](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_admin_setup_perms_assign.htm&language=en_US).
7. To save your changes, click **Done**.

In the marketing workspaces of the business unit, users with the Marketer-Standard role get the Content Manager role and can create, edit, view, and publish content in the workspace. Users with the Marketer-ReadOnly role don't have access to the marketing workspaces in the business unit.

To increase a member's access to a workspace, add them as a [contributor](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.cms_access_control_contributors.htm&type=5&language=en_US) to the workspace, and assign them the **Content Admin** role. You can't decrease a member's access to CMS workspaces. See [Manage User Access](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=mktg.mktg_admin_user_access.htm&language=en_US).

## Edit User Roles in a Business Unit

To adjust their access to the business unit's marketing CMS workspaces and ability to activate campaigns, change the user’s role. You can only assign the Marketing-Standard role to users with the Marketing Cloud Manager or Marketing Cloud Admin permission set.

1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Business Units and select it.
2. From the Business Units page, select a business unit.
3. In the Business Unit Members section, select one or more members.
4. Click the dropdown menu and select **Edit Role** for a single user or **Edit Roles** for multiple users.
5. In the Edit User Roles dialog box, change the role for each user.
6. Save your changes.
