# Understanding the EPC-to-PCM Transformation Layer

The system implements a transformation layer to ensure compatibility between EPC and DRO. This layer translates product data from the EPC model into a canonical PCM format consumable by DRO. This implementation makes DRO catalog-agnostic, removing any ‌modification of existing commercial or technical catalog data.

### Required Editions

As a key benefit, avoid complex commercial catalog migration because the system internally translates EPC data into the PCM format that DRO understands.
