# Manage Coupon-Based Promotions

Enter a valid coupon code to apply a coupon-based promotion to a quote or an order. A coupon-based promotion can apply to either a simple or a term-based promotion.

### Required Editions

A coupon-based promotion is a manual promotion. It applies only when you enter a valid coupon code, unlike an automatic promotion, which applies on its own when you add an eligible product.

Your admin creates the promotions and the coupon codes, and you apply them on the quote or order. Coupon codes are redeemable discount codes that your admin issues to customers, who apply them to unlock a promotion.
