# Attribute and Override Issues

Resolve common attribute and override issues in Industries CPQ, such as null override values, STRING\_TOO\_LONG errors, Bulk Replace Job failures, and attributes not displaying in the cart.

1. Override attribute value returns null after datapack deployment.
    
    **Issue**
    
    After deploying a Price Override datapack, the override Attribute value returns null.
    
    **Cause**
    
    Deploying only the Price Override isn't sufficient; the entire product bundle must be deployed for bundle-specific overrides.
    
    **Resolution**
    
    1. Redeploy the complete product bundle that uses VBT (Vlocity Build Tool), including all child products, attribute assignments, and override definitions.
    2. Run the EPC Fix Compiled Attribute Override job from Vlocity CMT Administration.
    3. Generate Compile Data and validate the override values in the cart.

    Note Always run the EPC Fix Compiled Attribute Override job after product attribute changes, override configuration changes, or deployments affecting attributes.
2. STRING\_TOO\_LONG error when creating an attribute override.
    
    **Issue**
    
    A STRING\_TOO\_LONG error occurs when creating an attribute override.
    
    **Cause**
    
    The managed package appends "Override" to the `AttributeAssignment__c` record name, which can exceed the 80-character Name field limit.
    
    **Resolution**
    
    1. Keep the base attribute assignment name under 72 characters.
    2. If the name exceeds this limit, rename the Attribute Assignment that uses the Product Console.
        
        The renaming doesn't impact functionality.
3. Bulk Replace Job failure with "Attempt to de-reference a null object" and Status code 810.
    
    **Issue**
    
    The bulk replaces job fails with an "Attempt to de-reference a null object" error at step 2.
    
    **Cause**
    
    An orphan attribute record on the product can cause a null reference.
    
    **Resolution**
    
    1. Run this query to identify product attributes.
        
        ```sql
        SELECT Id,Name,vlocity_cmt__AttributeDisplayName__c from vlocity_cmt__AttributeAssignment__c where vlocity_cmt__ObjectId__c = ':productId'
        ```
    2. Verify if any attributes listed previous aren't relevant to the product and delete such orphan attributes.
    3. Run `vlocity_cmt.EPCProductAttribJSONBatchJob` followed by all three maintenance jobs to rebuild attribute data.
4. Default attribute values that aren't applied in.
    
    **Issue**
    
    Default attribute values aren't applied in the cart even though they're set correctly on the product.
    
    **Cause**
    
    When Compiled Attribute Overrides exist, the system uses override values rather than product-level defaults. Check for stale overrides.
    
    **Resolution**
    
    1. Run this query to check for orphaned OverrideDefinition records:
        
        ```sql
        SELECT Id, vlocity_cmt__OverridingAttributeAssignmentId__c, vlocity_cmt__OverriddenAttributeAssignmentId__c FROM vlocity_cmt__OverrideDefinition__c WHERE vlocity_cmt__OverrideType__c = 'Attribute' AND (vlocity_cmt__OverridingAttributeAssignmentId__c = null OR vlocity_cmt__OverriddenAttributeAssignmentId__c = null)
        ```
    2. Review and remove orphan or duplicate override records.
    3. Run the EPC Fix Compiled Attribute Override job from Vlocity CMT Administration.
    4. Run the Product Hierarchy Maintenance, Clear and Refresh Platform Cache jobs.

5. Attribute not visible in Cart.
    
    **Issue**
    
    A product attribute isn't visible in the cart even though it exists in the `JSONAttribute__c` node.
    
    **Cause**
    
    Check if there are any Orphan `OverrideDefinition__c` records exist in the cart.
    
    **Resolution**
    
    1. Run this query to identify orphan AttributeAssignment records:
        
        ```sql
        SELECT Id, vlocity_cmt__OverridingAttributeAssignmentId__c, vlocity_cmt__OverriddenAttributeAssignmentId__c FROM vlocity_cmt__OverrideDefinition__c WHERE vlocity_cmt__OverrideType__c = 'Attribute' AND (vlocity_cmt__OverridingAttributeAssignmentId__c = null OR vlocity_cmt__OverriddenAttributeAssignmentId__c = null)
        ```
    2. Delete the orphan records.
    3. Run the EPC Fix Compiled Attribute Override job from Vlocity CMT Administration.
    4. Run the Product Hierarchy Maintenance, Clear and Refresh Platform Cache jobs.
