Set Up System Number Tracked Objects for Offline Sync

For numbering to work offline, set up the objects as tracked objects, and turn on data download for each one so the device gets its records.

Required Editions

Available in: Lightning Experience in Enterprise and Unlimited Editions that have Consumer Goods Cloud enabled.
User Permissions Needed
To set up system number tracked objects for offline sync: CGCloud Mobile Sync Admin
  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Sync Management and select Sync Management.
  2. In Sync Management, select Sync Configuration and then select Tracked Objects.
  3. Set up these custom objects as tracked objects, and select Data Download for each:
Object Why it must be available on the device
System Number The definition. The device reads it to learn the number format.
System Number Segment The device reads the segments that make up the number.
System Number Last The per-device counter. The device stores and advances its counter here, and then uploads the progress on sync.

Note: Make sure that sync rules are scoped to the user's assigned sales org, so each device gets only the definitions for its own sales org.

  4. Save your changes.

The tracked-object configuration makes each object's schema available on the device. The data-download setting controls whether the device downloads the object's records. Both settings are required. If an object isn't tracked, it doesn't exist on the device at all. Without the definition or its segments, the device can't build a number. Without the counter object, the device has nowhere to keep or upload its progress. Syncing is scoped to your sales org, so each device gets only the definitions for its own sales org.

    Prevent duplicate numbers

The app uploads a record and its counter advance in the same sync, but not as a single transaction, so they can succeed or fail on their own. If the counter advance doesn't reach the server, for example because the sync is interrupted or you don't sync the device before you reinstall it, the server's counter falls behind the numbers the device already used. The next fresh install then seeds from that stale value and can reissue numbers, which creates duplicates.

    To prevent this problem:

    • Sync devices regularly throughout the day.
    • Run a full manual sync immediately before you reinstall, clear data, or swap devices.
