A key attribute defines a specific object field that the pricing engine uses as part of a condition record search key. Key attributes are the building blocks of key types. A key type combines multiple key attributes to define the exact combination of fields the engine uses to look up a condition record.

Set up key attributes before creating key types.
The object you select determines which Salesforce fields are available as the attribute name in the next step:
-
Customer—Use for attributes that vary by account, such as customer tax code, customer group, or pricing-relevant customer classification.
-
Product—Use for attributes that vary by product, such as product tax classification, product category, or brand.
-
Order—Use for attributes from the current order header, such as order type, delivery date, or region code.
-
Auxiliary—Use for fields that don't belong to the standard Customer, Product, or Order objects. Useful for custom pricing context fields added via Add Custom Attributes to the Penny Perfect Pricing Context.
The attribute name is the specific Salesforce field that the pricing engine reads when evaluating a condition record lookup. For example, if you select Customer as the object and select Tax Code as the attribute name, the engine uses the tax code on the customer record to find the matching condition.
| Key Attribute | Object | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Customer ID | Customer | Identifies the account placing the order |

| Distribution Channel | Auxiliary | The channel through which the product is sold |

Salesforce provides a few standard out-of-the-box key attributes such as customer, product, order, or customer sets. You can define key attributes that aren’t a part of the standard set of attributes by using custom key attributes. With custom key attributes, you can define a special or specific search key.
