# Transition Criteria for Compliance Policy Record Status

Learn about the scenarios and rules governing the status transition of Compliance Policy Version and Compliance Policy Clause Version records.

Considerations

When the setting is turned on, only valid transitions occur.

When the setting is off, all status transitions are valid, without conditions.

Transition and validation criteria applies to individual record updates and bulk updates.

If compliance policy version has two or more published compliance policy clause versions, each published compliance policy clause version must be associated with a unique compliance policy clause record.

For example, when the setting is on:

- You can update the status of a draft compliance policy version to review.
- You can't update the status of a pending approval compliance policy version to draft.
- You can update a pending approval compliance policy version to published only when all associated compliance policy clause versions are published or active
