# Edit Decision Tables with CSV Files

Download an existing decision table as a CSV file, make bulk edits directly in the file, and upload it back. You can either append new rows of data to an existing table or overwrite the existing values.

Note You can download only those decision tables that were created using a CSV file.

Note Empty cells in your CSV file are stored as null values for most column types. Empty cells in Boolean columns default to false. The literal text "null" is not a valid cell value. Leave the cell empty to store a null value. For more information, see [How Null Values Work in Decision Tables](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.bre_null_values_dt.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "How decision tables treat null and blank input cells depends on the table type. In standard decision tables, use the Consider Null Values for Lookup option to control how rows with null values are matched during lookup. In advanced decision tables, Consider Null Values for Lookup isn't supported. Blank cells in optional input columns always act as wildcards and match any supplied value.").

1. From the App Launcher, find and select **Business Rules Engine**.
2. Click the app navigation menu, and select **Lookup Tables**.
3. Select the decision table that you created by using a CSV file as the source.
4. On the Table tab, click **Add CSV Data**. The Add Data to Decision Table dialog box appears.
5. Select how you'd like to upload the CSV data.

    ![Warning](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-ind-business_rules_engine-264-0-0-production-enus/b2d6dd5c-c231-428b-abbf-3dd2cd51a11f/images/icon_warning.png)

Warning Due to some technical limitations with popular CSV editing tools, very large numeric values are converted into scientific notation. For example, if your file contains the value 619903629728, it's converted to 6.19904E+11 when the file is saved. When the file is then imported into Business Rules Engine, it causes formatting issues, resulting in failed lookups. To avoid this, follow safe editing best practices as outlined here.

    - Configure your CSV editor to treat numbers as text.
    - If your editor has a setting to disable scientific notation conversion for very large numbers, use the setting.
    - Consider using a specialized editor such as EmEditor, which is designed for avoiding such issues. This is especially useful for large edits.
    - For minor edits, consider using simple apps such as Notepad, which saves your content as text.
6. To add rows of data to the existing table:
    1. In Manage duplicate rows, select **Append**.
    2. Click **Upload Files**, and select the CSV file from your system that contains the new rows.
    3. Click **Add Data**. The data in the CSV file is added to the decision table as new rows.

The first row in your CSV file must match the column names of the decision table.
7. To overwrite the rows of data in the existing table:
    1. In Manage duplicate rows, select **Overwrite**.
    2. Click **Prepare file for download**.

The existing data in the decision table is converted into a CSV file, which is hosted in Files. It takes a few minutes to prepare the CSV file. CSV files can be downloaded at any time from Files. The CSV file contains row IDs that correspond to data in the decision tables.
    3. From the App Launcher, find and select **Files**.
    4. Download the CSV file, then edit the data in the downloaded file and save your changes.

You can delete rows of data from the table by removing the values corresponding to the row IDs in the CSV file. Make sure that the row IDs and the commas are retained in the edited CSV file.
    5. Click **Upload Files**, and select the updated CSV file from your system.
    6. Click **Add Data**.

The data in the CSV file is added to or overwrites the data in the decision table.

To view the updated rows in your decision table, refresh the page. To verify the status of the CSV file being uploaded, see the CSV Upload Status on the Table tab.
