Before you select the default records that'll be used for your Salesforce org, make sure that you complete these prerequisite steps:

- Before you select a default billing treatment and a default legal entity, your billing operations user must create the [required billing records](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.billing_policies_and_treatments_create.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Define billing policies, treatments, and treatment items to generate invoices that suit your sales models.") and the [required Legal Entity records](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.billing_create_legal_entities.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create legal entities to manage the billing and tax information for order products.").
- Before you select a default tax treatment, your tax admin must create the [required tax records](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.billing_tax_configuration_engine.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "When you set up tax calculation, match each product’s tax needs to a partner or custom tax engine, the Revenue Standard Tax Engine, or imported tax lines. You can use more than one tax engine when products have different tax needs.").

1. From Setup, find and select **Billing Settings**.
2. Go to the Billing Defaults section, and select the default billing treatment, tax treatment, and legal entity.

Your changes are saved as soon as you select the default records.
