# Considerations and Results

Learn what happens when debit memo or debit memo lines get converted to invoice and invoice lines.

## Considerations for Conversion

- A Debit Memo record must have at least one related debit memo line to change the status of the record to Posted and begin the debit memo line conversion process.
- You can convert debit memo and debit memo lines to invoice and invoice lines only if the status of the related debit memo is Posted, and the invoice generation status is Ready for Invoice Generation.
- When you preview invoices on accounts, orders, or billing schedule groups, the debit memo lines are shown in the preview only if a matching invoice is found.

## Conversion Results and Error Handling

Learn what happens after debit memo or debit memo lines are converted to invoice and invoice lines, or when the conversion process fails.

- After the conversion process is completed successfully, the invoice generation status of the related debit memo gets updated to Draft Invoice Generated or Posted Invoice Generated. The Reference Entity Item field on the invoice line shows the related Debit Memo Line record.
- When you manually convert a debit memo and select the Manually Processed field, the invoice generation status automatically changes to Posted Invoice Generated.
- If no matching invoice is found for the debit memo or if the debit memo line conversion fails, then a Revenue Transaction Log Error record is created. You can see the error log on the related list of the invoice batch run or the debit memo. If no matching invoice is found, you can:
    - Modify the matching invoice reference key or matching invoice reference name to find a matching invoice in the next invoice batch run.
    - Manually convert the debit memo using the [Invoice Ingestion API](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.revenue_lifecycle_management_dev_guide.meta/revenue_lifecycle_management_dev_guide/connect_resources_invoices_ingestion.htm) and select the Manually Processed checkbox on the debit memo.
- If the invoice to which the debit memo line is converted and added as an invoice line is voided, deleted or recovered, the invoice generation status of the debit memo line changes to Ready for Invoice Generation, and a different invoice batch run picks up the debit memo line for debit memo line conversion.
