# Recovery Cost Tracking for Repossession Items

Capture the itemized costs of recovering a vehicle and roll them up to a total on the repossession item.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Enterprise</strong>, <strong>Unlimited</strong>, and <strong>Developer</strong> Editions.</td></tr></tbody></table>

A specialist captures costs on Repossession Item Cost records tied to a repossession item. A Repossession Item Cost has a type, cost book, status, and total cost. It holds one or more cost-allocation line items that break the cost down: name, type, an optional cost book entry, product, and amount.

When the specialist selects a cost book entry, the wizard fills in the product and cost from that entry. The Repossession Item Cost's total cost sums its allocations automatically. The repossession item's total recovery cost, shown on the Collateral tab, sums all its Repossession Item Costs. The specialist submits all allocations on one Repossession Item Cost together in one operation.

Note Creating individual Repossession Item Cost records isn't mandatory. As an alternative, if you prefer one figure, you can add a custom total-cost field and enter an amount directly.

To add costs, see [Add Recovery Costs to a Repossession Item](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.auto_repossession_add_recovery_costs.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
