          </tr>
        </tbody>
      </table>

Before you customize the portal, create the taxpayer portal site. See [Create the Taxpayer Portal Site](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.aps_tr_configure_taxpayer_portal.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create an Experience Cloud site by using the Public Sector Tax and Revenue Portal template.").

The home page contains a single HTML rich-text block. Replace the placeholder with your agency's welcome message, portal instructions, or links to other resources. Add components from the Experience Builder palette, such as banners, images, text blocks, or navigation tiles. The home page is purely static and has no access to taxpayer data. Use the Tax Center page for data-driven content.

The Tax Center page includes a header with a Filing Period selector and a Tax Center Container that manages loading, error, empty, and data states. By default, the Tax Center tabs include AI Summary, Tax & Refunds, Income & Payments, and Filing Details. For the data provider expressions that supply taxpayer data to Tax Center components, see [Taxpayer Portal Data Providers and Expressions](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.aps_tr_portal_data_providers.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Reference for the TaxpayerProfile and TaxpayerActivity data providers and related platform expressions. Data providers and expressions supply the live taxpayer data to Tax Center components in the Taxpayer portal."). The taxpayer portal shows DMO (data model object) values as they were ingested. Those values aren’t translated.

1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Digital Experiences, select **All Sites**, and then click **Builder** next to your taxpayer portal site.
2. On the Tax Center page, click the **Tabs** component to open the property panel and edit tabs.

    To add a tab, click the tabs component and add a new tab, and then drag components from the Public Sector palette into the tab's content region. Only components that are wired to TaxpayerActivity expressions show live data. To remove a tab, click the tab bar, select the tab, and delete it. Removing a tab doesn't affect the underlying data providers.
3. Click a section or table component to customize its fields and columns.
4. To match your agency's branding, update site, navigation, tab, and component style, go to **Theme Settings**.
5. For any component that shows monetary values, set **Currency Code** to the appropriate ISO 4217 currency code, such as USD.
6. Click **Publish** to apply your changes.

## Customize Error and Empty States

Edit the Tax Center error and empty state content that taxpayers see when data can't be loaded or no tax records exist for the selected year.

The Tax Center Container shows one state at a time: loading, error, empty, or data. The error and empty states are editable regions on the Experience Builder canvas. Use **Preview State** on the Tax Center Container to show the error or empty region while you edit. Switch the preview back to **Data** when you finish editing.

1. In Experience Builder, select the Tax Center Container, and then set **Preview State** to **Error**.
2. Click the various components and content blocks to update their content.
3. Set **Preview State** to **Empty**, and then edit the image, heading, and body text for the empty state.
4. Set **Preview State** back to **Data**, and then click **Publish**.
5. Optionally, to edit empty state messages for sections, click the individual components, like the Refund & Liability Section or Deposits & Payments Section. Then, change the text of the **Empty Message** property for when a section has no data for the selected year.

## Customize the AI Summary Prompt

Edit the prompt template that controls what the AI Summary shows taxpayers in the portal.

The taxpayer portal includes a built-in AI Summary component powered by a prompt template named Tax Revenue—AI Summary. Edit the prompt body and publish a new version at any time with no component changes needed. The portal automatically uses the active version.

1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Prompt Builder, and then select **Prompt Builder**.
2. Search for and open **Tax Revenue — AI Summary**.
3. Click **Save as New Version**.
4. Edit the prompt body to reflect your agency's preferred language and focus areas.
5. Set the version status to **Active**, and then click **Publish**.
