# Data Model for Peer-to-Peer Conversations in Experience Cloud Sites

Experience Cloud uses Chatter behind the scenes for peer-to-peer conversations in Experience Cloud sites. To keep conversations in your internal org separate from the ones in an external-facing site, each Chatter post or conversation is tied to the Experience Cloud site that it belongs to. If you have more than one external-facing site, the same is true for conversations in each site—each one is tied to the site that it belongs to.

You don’t have to worry about your Experience Cloud site users seeing your internal Chatter conversations, or vice versa. Here are the [primary objects](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.api.meta/api/RelationshipsOfChatterObjects.htm) behind Chatter.

![Flow chart showing the data model of conversations](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-experience-communities-264-0-0-production-enus/bf7df212-91a1-4fa3-a007-4d6f3e3b470b/communities/images/convo_chart.png)

Here’s what the key objects represent in terms of your peer-to-peer conversations.

- [User](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_user.htm)—The person who is posting to the site.
- [FeedItem](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_feeditem.htm)—A new post or thread on a site.
- [FeedComment](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_feedcomment.htm)—A comment added to an existing post.
- [FeedLike](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_feedlike.htm)—Tracks who liked a post.
- [FeedAttachment](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_feedattachment.htm)—Tracks which file or link was attached to a post.
- [FeedPollChoice](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_feedpollchoice.htm)—Shows the choices for a poll that’s posted in the feed.
- [FeedPollVote](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_feedpollvote.htm)—Tracks how users voted on a poll that’s posted in the feed.
- [ContentDocument](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_contentdocument.htm)—Represents a file uploaded to the site as an attachment or an inline image in a post.
- [ContentVersion](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_contentversion.htm)—Tracks file versioning. When you upload a file (`ContentDocument`), a child `ContentVersion` record is created.
- [CollaborationGroup](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_collaborationgroup.htm)—A group in the site.
- [CollaborationGroupMember](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_collaborationgroupmember.htm)—A member of a group.
- [Topic](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_topic.htm)—A topic (#hashtag) of conversation.
- [TopicAssignment](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_topicassignment.htm) —Links a topic to a conversation in the site.
- [EntitySubscription](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_entitysubscription.htm): Tracks which records or users someone is following.

Here are a few other important objects to be aware of.

- [Contact](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_contact.htm)—All external site users (people who don’t work for your company) must first be created as contacts before they can be enabled as a user of your Experience Cloud site.
- [Account](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_account.htm)—The company that a contact works for. If you sell B2C and use person accounts, you load the person’s info as a person account and not a contact. A person account creates a hybrid of an account and contact behind the scenes.
- [Network](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_network.htm?search_text=user)—The site the forum posts map into.
- [NetworkMember](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.object_reference.meta/object_reference/sforce_api_objects_networkmember.htm?search_text=user)—Tracks the Chatter preferences for a user in a given site and the reputation points that they’ve earned. These records are created during your user load. To migrate users’ reputation points, update them at the end of your migration.

Migrating peer-to-peer conversations from other platforms can be a part of creating an Experience Cloud site. Understand the steps to take before migrating and how to use Data Loader to migrate conversations.
