# Search a Chatter Feed

Use feed search to find information in the current Chatter feed.

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small "><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: both Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Essentials</strong>, <strong>Group</strong>, <strong>Professional</strong>, <strong>Enterprise</strong>, <strong>Performance</strong>, <strong>Unlimited</strong>, <strong>Contact Manager</strong>, and <strong>Developer</strong> Editions</td></tr></tbody></table>

You can search for information in the current feed on records, groups, topic pages, user profiles, and on the Chatter and Home tabs. (The Home tab is available in Salesforce Classic only.)

1. Click ![feed search magnifying glass](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-experience-collaboration-264-0-0-production-enus/1aab5b5e-c990-4b8c-840a-6fb18af49709/collaboration/images/find_in_feed_icon.png) above the feed to look for information in that feed. For example, use the feed search on a group’s page to find information in that group.
2. Enter your search terms, and press Enter or click ![feed search magnifying glass](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-experience-collaboration-264-0-0-production-enus/1aab5b5e-c990-4b8c-840a-6fb18af49709/collaboration/images/find_in_feed_icon.png).

You can search for hashtag topics, mentions, and files posted in the feed, or refine your search using wildcards, operators, and quotation marks to match on exact phrases. To search for hashtag topics with multiple words, use brackets after the hashtag and around the words. For example, to find all instances of #Universal Paper, type #\[universal paper\] in the search box.

Search results display with matching terms highlighted. Filters or sorting criteria used in the feed apply to feed search results as well.

Click ![clear search icon](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-experience-collaboration-264-0-0-production-enus/1aab5b5e-c990-4b8c-840a-6fb18af49709/collaboration/images/find_in_feed_clearsearch_icon.png) to clear your search terms and return to the feed.

Feed search behavior can vary slightly depending on where you perform the search.

- Feed search isn’t supported for feeds on list views.
- You can search only the feeds you have access to via sharing rules.
- On the Chatter tab, feed search results are also limited by your feed type selections. For example, if you select the To Me feed, and then apply filters and sorting criteria, all of those criteria also apply to the results.
- Feed search results are limited to the posts that are accessible from the context you search within. For example, if you search the feed on a user’s profile, the results include the posts and comments accessible from the user’s profile. Both the posts and comments that are shared by or with the user are included.
- Feed search returns matches for file or link names that are shared in posts, but not in comments, and only includes the first attachment. For example: if you attach `file1.pdf`, `file2.pdf`, and `file3.pdf` to a post, where `file1.pdf` is the first file you attach, only `file1.pdf` is included in the search results.
- Record field changes aren’t included in record feed search results.
