# Prevent Users from Attaching Salesforce Files

Use permission sets to prevent users from attaching Salesforce Files to posts, records, and other objects.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: All Editions</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Permission sets available in: <strong>Contact Manager</strong>, <strong>Professional</strong>, <strong>Group</strong>, <strong>Enterprise</strong>, <strong>Performance</strong>, <strong>Unlimited</strong>, <strong>Developer</strong>, and <strong>Database.com</strong> Editions</td></tr></tbody></table>

1. From Setup, enter User Profiles in the Quick Find box, and select **Profiles**.
2. Click **Edit** next to the user profile you want to change.
3. In the Administrative Permissions section, enable or disable the **Select Files from Salesforce** checkbox, and click **Save**.

Another option is to apply the permission in a permission set. Users who have this permission disabled are still able to upload files from their local drive. To apply the permission in a permission set, from Setup enter Permission Sets in the QuickFind box, then select **Permission Sets**. Edit the permission set and apply the Select Files from Salesforce permission.

Note The Enable Chatter permission on a user's profile can affect how files are uploaded. If your custom component doesn't use lightning-file-upload or lightning:fileUpload, users can still upload files even if Enable Chatter is turned off. You need to add your own rules to block file uploads if you don't want users to upload files.

If your custom component uses lightning-file-upload or lightning:fileUpload, users cannot upload files if Enable Chatter is turned off. You should make sure the Enable Chatter permission is set correctly to control who can upload files.
