# Session Extension in Real-Time Data Graphs

To maintain consistency between a real-time data graph and a standard data graph, session extension preserves your data for a longer period while the standard graph updates.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience</td></tr></tbody></table>

This ensures you won't lose any valuable information at the end of a session. Session extension can sometimes delay the availability of lake house updates in your real-time data graph. Additionally, by keeping your data graph fresh, you can trust that the information you see is always up-to-date and accurately reflects the latest changes in your data sources. This is achieved through an automated update process that periodically refreshes the data graph. These updates occur in the background and minimize disruption to your ongoing sessions.
