# File Name Examples for File Storage Activation

Based on the values configured for the fields of your file storage activation target, here are some examples of file names for Data 360 external activations.

## File Naming for Segment Activations

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small ">
        <colgroup>
          <col style="width:50%">
          <col style="width:50%">
        </colgroup>
        <thead class="slds-text-title_caps ">

            <th scope="col" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" id="d197852e42">Description</th>
          </tr>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
          <tr class="">
            <td data-label="File Name" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d197852e39 ">TeenagersInNewyork_EmailCampaign_2023-07-30-17-55-45-216_00000.csv</td>

            <td data-label="Description" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d197852e42 ">
              <p> Non-compressed / Non-encrypted CSV file with date/time suffix. This file name
                is predetermined based on the segment name and activation name.</p>
              <ul>
                <li>TeenagersInNewyork - Segment name</li>

                <li>EmailCampaign - Activation name </li>

                <li>2023-07-30-17-55-45-216 - Date/time suffix referring to the segment
                  publish/refresh time with milliseconds in yyyy-MM-dd-HH-mm-ss-SSS format.</li>

                <li>00000 - Part number. The number of files generated depends on the volume of
                  activated data. Each file has a part number (00000, 00001, 00002, and so on)
                  even if the activation produces only a single file.</li>

                <li>.csv - File extension</li>

              </ul>
            </td>

              encryption is applicable only for SFTP activation target.</td>

          </tr>
          <tr class="">
            <td data-label="File Name" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d197852e39 ">WinterOffersForMobileAudience_2023-07-30-17-55-45_00000.json</td>

            <td data-label="Description" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d197852e42 "> A custom file name. All activations to the activation target contain the same
              custom file name with a different date/time suffix based on the segment publish time
            </td>

          </tr>
        </tbody>
      </table>

## File Naming for Non-Segment Activations

For non-segment activations, such as batch DMO and API activations, the output file name always uses `<ActivationName>` irrespective of the predetermined file name you select for the activation target.

Example: EmailCampaign\_2023-07-30-17-55-45-216\_00000.csv

## Segment Metadata JSON File

For S3 (Legacy) targets, the filename is segment\_metadata.json.

For other file storage activation targets, the segment metadata JSON file uses the naming convention {File Name Type}\_{Date/Time Suffix}\_segment\_metadata.json, where the File Name Type and Date/Time Suffix are defined during the activation target setup. Example: TeenagersInNewYork\_EmailCampaign\_2023-07-30-17-55-45-216\_segment\_metadata.json
