# Create a Document Schema Configuration Manually

Configure a document schema to represent data extracted from your source files into a Data Lake Object (DLO). Use the document schema builder to manually define the structure of the document schema by adding fields and tables.

If you choose, you can create Document AI configurations using the Data Cloud Connect API. See the [Data Cloud Connect API reference](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/data/connectapi/references/spec?meta=postDocumentAIConfigExtractData) for details.

**Before you begin**

- To use Document AI in Data Cloud 360, [turn on Einstein Generative AI](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.generative_ai_enable.htm&language=en_US&type=5) and [enable Agentforce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.agent_setup_enable.htm&language=en_US&type=5).
- Ensure that you've followed the unstructured data workflow and have created an unstructured data model object (UDMO) to reference your source files.

## Create an output DLO

Configure an output DLO to represent the schema definition of the data extracted from your source file.

1. From the App Launcher, select Data Cloud.
2. Click **Process Content** | **Document AI** | **New**.
3. Click **From a Source Object**.
4. Select the UDMO that contains the documents you want to process.
    1. To process files from an existing source, select a UDMO that contains documents for processing, and click **Next**.
    2. To process files ingested through the Salesforce CRM connector, select the **Content Document Version** UDMO.

Choose the CRM object whose file attachments you want to process, such as Account or Contact, and click **Save**. The available objects come from your Content Document Relationship records.
5. Use the toggles to select which file types are available for your document schema configuration, and click **Next**.
6. Select which LLM you want to use, and click **Next**.
7. On the Configure a Data Lake Object page, click **Add**.
8. Click From Scratch, and in the New Data Lake Object dialog, supply values for the DLO Name and API Name, and then click **Next**.

## Add Fields to Extract

Configure the fields to extract and define the structure of the document schema.

1. In the document schema builder, click **Create Manually** and then click **Confirm**.
2. In the Outputs panel, select the Fields tab and then click **Add Field**.
3. Provide a name, API Name, and Category for the field.
4. To add more fields, click **Add**.
5. Click **Test** and verify the results of the extraction.
6. Select **Save Draft** to revisit your configuration later or **Publish** to activate your configuration.

## Add Tables to Extract

Configure the tables to extract.

1. In the Outputs panel, select the Tables tab.
2. Click **Add Table**.
3. Provide a name, API Name, and Category for the table.
4. Click the Columns tab, click **Add New Column**, and provide a name, API Name, and Category for the column.
5. Continue adding columns until the table is complete.
6. To configure more tables, click **Add New** and repeat the steps to add the table columns.
7. Click **Test** and verify the results of the extraction.
8. Select **Save Draft** to revisit your configuration later or **Publish** to activate your configuration.

You can view the document schema configuration on the details page. To instead populate the schema from a JSON file, review [Import a Document Schema Configuration from JSON](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=data.c360_a_document_ai_new_config_no_source.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5).
