# Disable a Data Stream Field

If a field is no longer required in a data stream, you can disable it. Disabling a field removes it from the data stream, and no new data is ingested. You can’t assign the name of a disabled field to a new field.

### Required Editions

Before disabling a data stream, review [Considerations for Data Stream Field Disablement](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=data.c360_a_data_stream_field_deletion_settings.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "There are few restrictions to consider when planning to disable a data stream field.").

After you disable a field you can’t enable it again, but existing data remains in Data 360. However, you can enable a disabled field in Salesforce CRM connector data stream. See [Disable or Re-enable Salesforce CRM Connector Data Stream Fields](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=data.c360_a_crm_disable_or_reenable_data_stream_field.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Disable fields in a Salesforce CRM connector data stream to stop new data ingestion, clear existing data for that field, and remove it. If you need a field again later for a standard or custom data lake object (DLO), re-enable it. Give a new field a different name than any disabled field.").

1. Go to the Data Streams tab.
2. On the Fields tab on the record page, view the fields associated with the data stream.
3. In the Search field, enter the field name or scroll the page to locate it.
4. At the end of the row for the field, click the down arrow and select **Disable Field**.
5. Click **Disable**.

The disabled field remains in the data lake object (DLO), and the data ingested before the field was disabled is still available in the DLO. You can't delete a DLO field.

There are few restrictions to consider when planning to disable a data stream field.
