# Data Lake Object Naming Standards

Use these naming guidelines for data lake objects.

          <td data-label="Description" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d92227e57 ">Display name of the object storing the dataset. The object label must
            be unique.</td>

          <td data-label="Description" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d92227e57 ">
            <p>API name of the object storing the data. The name must be unique and
              no longer than 40 characters. The naming conventions are:</p>
            <ul>
              <li>Only underscores and alphanumeric characters</li>
              <li>Begin with a letter and not include spaces</li>
              <li>Can’t end with an underscore</li>
              <li>Can’t have two consecutive underscores</li>
            </ul>
