# Promotions for Customer Groups

When you sign up a new customer in the Point of Sale (POS) app, the value entered in the Customer Group field saves to Point of Sale's backend. Customers can only be assigned to one group at a time. They cannot be part of multiple groups at the same time. For example, a customer can belong to the Teacher group or the Veteran group, but not both.

After a customer profile is created and signed in, promotions eligible for the specific customer group can be applied, adhering to the same rules as other promotions, for example, use of codes, stackability, Best Price Wins. The customer group specified in the promotion must match the customer group recorded in the customer profile for the promotion to be valid.

Note If the customer profile is logged out before checking out, the cart is voided, removing all items and promotions.
