# Create Custom Orders in the POS App

Point of Sale allows you to create orders for custom-made items by capturing product attributes through a layout. A new product is created at runtime in Point of Sale. You can create a custom order from a basic part or product to add specific fabrics, textures, and styles. Creating custom orders helps to deliver a personalized and unique product for each customer.

Prerequisites:

- Modern POS App Build: 5.5.2 or later
- Platform Support: iPhone & iPad
- Offline Support: No
- ERP Configuration: [NetSuite](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_erp_netsuite.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Enable order management by integrating your NetSuite ERP with Point of Sale CMS. Begin with an initial configuration on your NetSuite account. Then, complete the setup in the CMS.")

## Enable Not on File Products

Enable store associates to add products that arenʼt on file to an order.

1. in CMS, go to **Store Management** | **Store Settings** | **Inventory**.
2. Turn on **Is Item not on file feature enabled for this merchant**.

## Create a Layout for Not on File Products

Create and publish a layout to capture all possible attributes for a special item.

1. Go to **Apps** | **All** | **\[your app config\]** | **Edit** | **Modules** | **Cart**.
2. Configure the **Custom Order Layout (CustomOrderLayoutID)** value for the special/custom order layout that was created.

## Configure a Deep Link

Configure the Special Item deep link as a cart option. This is required for associates to be able to create and add a special item to the basket.

1. Go to **Apps** | **All** | **\[your app config\]** | **Edit** | **Modules** | **Cart**.
2. Check and modify **Cart Options Layout** to have an option for **Special Item**.
3. Configure the deep link of that cell as **Cart Option** | **Custom Order**.

## Enable Form Copying

Optionally, you can allow forms to be copied, allowing for better management of orders that involve similar items.

See [Copying Special Forms in the POS app App](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_cms_layouts_settings_form_copy.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Add a copy button to your custom order layout in the POS app to quickly duplicate forms. Tapping the button creates a new form with all original input values, which can be edited and is automatically added to the cart. This feature streamlines order management for store associates, especially for similar items.").

## Custom Orders in the POS App

Store associates can capture specific attributes for special-order items at checkout. Point of Sale supports customized product returns through configured product classes or external order master settings.

### Sales

Store associates can see the Custom Order option in the options panel of the checkout screen.

When a store associate selects **Special Item**, a layout to enter custom attributes for the item appears. Store associates can capture the required attributes of the custom item being ordered by the customer.

After the store associate enters the details for the item and adds the item to the cart, they can see the item and details in the cart.

Store associates can check the attributes of the custom item and edit the values by clicking **View & Edit** which is available at the line item.

### Returns

Point of Sale supports customized product returns through two methods. If the custom product has a configured [product class](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_pos_orders_custom_non_merchandise_sku.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "POS enables you to configure non-merchandise SKUs, such as postage stamps and gift certificates, to meet your business needs. You can also configure the checkout rules that apply to these items. Control if these items are discountable or taxable, and set other rules."), returnability can be set accordingly. Alternatively, for merchants using an external master, products can be marked as not eligible for return by setting the returnsEligibility field in the [Get Order SPI](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/commerce/retail-cloud/guide/retail-cloud-api-spi-webhook-specs.html#order-spis).
