# Gift Card Support in POS

Gift card support in the POS app enables store associates to handle gift card payments, purchases, and returns, streamlining the checkout process. Associates can easily apply gift card tenders, add value to cards, and redeem them for merchandise. With gift card returns, associates can issue refunds to new gift cards, offering customers a convenient option.

## Paying with a Gift Card

When a store associate clicks on the Set Gift Card Tender deep link, the app prompts the associate to provide the gift card number and pin. After the associate clicks on Apply, the app shows the balance along with a field for entering the amount to apply to the purchase. The associate can either click Cancel to not proceed or Apply to proceed with tendering using this gift card. After applied, the app shows the amount charged to the gift card in the summary section on the bottom right of the cart screen along with the balance remaining. The tendered gift card is also shown in the summary section on the bottom right. If you decide not to use this card, you can remove it by clicking on the remove icon beside the tendered gift card.

## Purchasing a Gift Card

When a store associate clicks on the Purchase a Gift Card deep link, the app prompts them to provide the gift card number and the amount to add to the gift card. The store associate can click ISSUE to add this gift card to the cart for purchase and checkout by paying with any other tender to complete the transaction.

## Adding Value to a Gift Card

When the store associate taps the Add Value to Gift Card deep link, the app prompts them to enter the amount to add to the gift card.

After confirmation, the app adds the gift card along with the added value to the cart. The store associate can check out by paying with any other tender to add value to the gift card.

## Redeeming a Gift Card

When the store associate taps the Redeem Gift Card link, the gift card is added to the cart as a returned product. The gift card balance is the return total for that product.

## Returns via a Gift Card

When a customer walks in with a gift receipt or with no receipt to return a product, the app will be able to return the amount to a new gift card. The associate can fill the cart with the returned products and go to the cart screen. When the store associate clicks Return, the app shows a list of options to which the tendered amount can be returned. If the Return Policy is set to return to Gift Card, the app shows the option to do so.

The associate can select the gift card option and click Confirm. The app prompts the associate to provide the Gift Card number.

Only new, unused gift cards can be used for refunds. After VERIFY is clicked and the gift card is confirmed to be new, the appropriate amount is returned to the gift card.

## Receipts

Gift card information can be included on email and print receipts using [Email Tags](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_cms_layouts_receipts_tags_config_email.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Email tags in Point of Sale are placeholders for email and print templates that pull specific information from data that are then shown instead of the actual placeholder.") and [Print Tags](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_cms_layouts_receipts_tags_config_print.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Print tags are placeholder strings that dynamically display data in Point of Sale layouts. Add print tags to native or HTML text overlays to display information such as order totals, customer names, or store details. You can also use print tags in certain app-level settings.").

## Known Issues & Restrictions

- Returns back to the original gift card are not supported.
- You can't add another product or a gift card while redeeming a gift card. The app throws the error, "_Multiple gift card cash outs not allowed_". Cashing out a gift card is always ‌a separate transaction.
- Gift card purchases can't be made using pay by link. If attempted on the POS app, users see the error message: "_Cannot start remote pay by link when there are gift card products in the cart._"

## Configure Gift Card Support in POS

POS offers flexible options for gift card support, including buying, balance checks, and payment processing. Integrate gift card services directly, through payment gateways like Adyen and Verifone, or through a Service Provider Interface (SPI) for comprehensive transaction reporting. Merchants manage vendor contracts, while Salesforce provides the tools to configure cash redemption thresholds and enable features like gift card purchases with other gift cards.

- Modern POS App Build: 5.1.0 or greater
- Platform Support: iPhone, iPad
- Offline Support: No
- Configure Return Policies for both Offline and Online modes. If not configured, gift card functionalities might not work like issuing a new gift card or adding balance. See [Returns Policy Configuration](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_cms_settings_returns_policy_configuration.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "The Point of Sale (POS) app lets store associates perform returns on purchased items based on configured policies.")

- For direct integrations, we offer out-of-the-box support for Givex, Clutch, and Netsuite.
- Via Adyen, we support Givex, SVS, and Fiserv (formerly Valuelink). See [Gift Cards via Payment Terminal](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_cms_hardware_config_gift_cards_terminal.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Configure Point of Sale's Point of Sale (POS) to accept gift card payments, add value, cash out, and check balances, using a payment terminal. Merchants can select the integration approach that suits their needs, verifying all transactions are available through gateway reporting.").
- Via Verifone Flex, we support Givex and SVS.
- Via the Gift Card Service SPI, you can connect to any gift card provider. See [Gift Card Service SPI](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/commerce/retail-cloud/references/gift-card-spi?meta=Summary)

For gift card platforms that overlap between direct and gateway integrations, you can choose the approach that best suits your needs. Opting for the gateway approach ensures that all transactions are available through the gateway reporting.

Important Merchants are responsible for directly contracting with their chosen gift card vendor. Salesforce doesn't manage vendor contracts for merchants.

### Create Gift Card Integration

Each gift card service has its own set of required fields. This configuration is specific to direct integrations via the backend (for example GiveX, Clutch).

1. Go to **Integrations** | **Gift Cards**.
2. Click **Create**.
3. After choosing a service, fill out the required fields. See [Gift Card - Clutch Integration](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_gift_card_clutch.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "The Point of Sale (POS) app supports gift card integration with Clutch. Learn how to configure a Clutch account with the supported functionality.") and [Gift Card - Givex Integration](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_gift_card_givex.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Point of Sale's POS supports gift card integration with Givex. Learn how to configure a Givex account with the supported functionality.").
4. (Optional) Under Advanced:
    1. Configure Cash Out Config if you want to have a threshold when redeeming cash with a gift card.
    2. Enable Allow Gift Card Purchase to permit buying gift cards with another gift card.
    3. Enable Require Activation to mandate gift card activation.
5. Save your changes.

The cash out configuration is used to determine the threshold when redeeming cash with a gift card. There are two fields:

- Default Cash Redemption Threshold: This field specifies the dollar amount specified for the cash redemption.
- State-Specific Cash Redemption Thresholds: These are cash redemption limits for specific states.

For example, in the state of California, customers can redeem their gift card as cash if the gift card has less than or equal to $15. In the state of Texas, customers can redeem their gift card as cash if the gift card has less than or equal to $25. For all other states, the threshold is $10, because it was set as the default.

### Set Gift Cards as Tender

A gift card needs to be added as one of the supported tenders so that it can be shown on the POS app.

1. Go to **App** | **All**.
2. Edit an app config.
3. Go to **Modules** | **Cart**.
4. Turn on the flag, Has Gift Card.
5. Save your changes.
6. Go to **Store Management** | **Store Setting** | **Payment**.
7. Expand **Advanced**.
8. Under Supported Tenders, make sure “GiftCard” is one of the supported tenders.
9. Save your changes.

### Configure Gift Card Deep Links

Set deep links on layouts to manage gift card behavior on the POS app.

1. Edit a layout or hamburger menu.
2. Add these deep link(s) for the specific use case:
    - Set Gift Card Tender: Displays the gift card configuration screen
    - Purchase a Gift Card: Allows gift card to be added to the cart for purchase
    - Add to a gift card: Adds value to the gift card
    - Cash out a gift card: Allows gift cards to be cashed out
    - Check gift card balance: Checks current gift card balance

### Display & Delete Applied Gift Cards

Turn on the POS app to show applied gift cards on the cart screen and provide an option to delete them.

1. In CMS, go to **Apps**.
2. Edit an app config.
3. Go to **Modules** | **Cart**.
4. Turn on the flag, Has Gift Card (HasGiftCard).

### Configure Returns to Gift Card via Tender Mapping

Optionally, you can configure mappings to allow returns from any sales tender to be issued as a gift card return. Note that these mappings apply only to returns made within the specified return policy window.

1. In CMS, go to **Store Management** | **Return Policy Configuration**.
2. Edit a policy.
3. Go to **Return Tender Mapping**.
4. Configure the fields. See [Returns Policy Configuration](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_cms_settings_returns_policy_configuration.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "The Point of Sale (POS) app lets store associates perform returns on purchased items based on configured policies.").
