How does Point of Sale manage Network Time Protocols (NTP) with orders?
Point of Sale ensures accurate timing for order management through the use of Network Time Protocols (NTP). Here's how it works:
- Online Orders: The timestamp for each online order is captured as the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in milliseconds, directly from our server. This ensures that the timing for these orders is precise and consistent, regardless of the user's local time zone.
- Offline Orders: For orders processed offline, such as those made through an iOS device without an immediate internet connection, the timestamp is set at the moment the transaction is completed on the device. It's important to note that if the device's time has been manually adjusted by the user, the timestamp for the order will reflect this changed time. This means the recorded time for offline orders may vary based on the device's settings at the time of the transaction.
What's the rolling cadence for support of the POS App?
The regression testing always occurs with the latest POS version. We don't perform back verification on older POS app versions. Our Backend strives to maintain backward compatibility with older POS app versions and warns if not achievable.
What are the best practices for managing IP addresses for store devices like POS systems
For critical devices such as POS systems, it is recommended to use static IPs to make sure reliable reconnection to peripherals from previous sessions. However, if managing static IPs at scale becomes difficult, DHCP reservation can be used as an alternative, providing fixed IP addresses to devices while simplifying network management.
