# Create or Start Cycle Count in CMS

Create or start cycle counts in the Point of Sale (POS) app to make sure of accurate inventory management.

Only managers or individuals with equivalent roles can create a cycle count in the app. The app is similar to the creation screen on the CMS. However, for manual counts, the user can either scan or look up items.

## Creating a Cycle Count in the POS App

1. In the app, select the cycle count deep link.
2. If no active cycle counts are found for your store, you'll be directed to the "Create Cycle Count" screen. If there's an existing active count, you'll see the notification: "There is already an active cycle count." Choosing "Continue" redirects you to the "Cycle Count History" screen.
3. Fill in the required fields following the same rules as [Create Cycle Count in CMS](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_cms_modules_create_cycle_count_in_cms.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create cycle counts in CMS to make sure of accurate inventory management.").
4. Select **Create** to create the cycle count.

## Starting Cycle Count in POS App

After creating a cycle count, the user can proceed to start the count. Note, only managers or individuals with equivalent roles can start a cycle count.

1. In the app, go to the **Inventory** tab and select **Cycle Count History**. On this screen, users can see previous cycle counts as well as new ones.
2. Select the ‌cycle count (previous or new) with the **Edit Cycle Count** option.
3. On the next screen, select **Start Cycle Count**.
4. The cycle count will be created based on the selected items during the creation process. Managers can review the items in the cycle count, remove any irrelevant items, and start opening batches for associates to begin scanning.

## Manage Cycle Counts using the API

The [Inventory Management API](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/commerce/retail-cloud/guide/retail-cloud-api-spi-webhook-specs.html#inventory-management) includes options to create manual, full, and partial cycle counts and cancel cycle counts. When triggered, data flows into the Point of Sale CMS.
