# Use Invoice Document Receipts

POS lets you print invoices for your customers, either immediately after a transaction or later. Easily provide customers with detailed records of their purchases by printing invoice documents. These invoices offer a comprehensive alternative to standard receipts.

- **Modern POS App build**: 7.13.5
- **Platform Support**: iPhone & iPad
- **Offline Support**: Yes

## Add an Order Confirmation layout

1. Create an Order Confirmation layout by adding a layout to **Layouts** | **Layouts Settings** | **Order Confirmation**.
2. In the new layout, add a button that will print out the invoice.
3. In the button configuration, set its deeplink to **Print Receipt** | **Print Invoice receipt**.
4. Go to **App Config** | **UI** | **UI Options**.
5. Add the layout created to **Order Confirmation Layouts** | **Purchase layout**.

## Configure the Invoice Metadata

1. Go to the **Modules** | **POS** | **Receipt Configuration**.
2. Inside the Receipt Settings, fill out the Invoice Metadata Text with anything that should be shown in the invoices that is not part of regular receipts.

## Configure the Customer Information Capture

See [Capturing Customer Information for Sales](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_pos_settings_customer_info_sales.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Configure a layout to show customer information such as name, email address, address, and other details to show associates in the Point of Sale (POS) app during a sale.") to enable Customer Information Capture. It's needed for the information shown in the invoices.

For tax invoices, add the address and tax ID fields to your Customer Information Capture layout. See [POS app behavior for Invoice Document Receipts](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_cms_layouts_receipts_invoice.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Discover how invoice document receipts are used in the POS app app.") for the full list of supported invoice tags.

## POS app behavior for Invoice Document Receipts

Discover how invoice document receipts are used in the POS app app.

### Customer Information Capture

Once enabled, store associates can capture the customer information. This information will be associated with the order and then be used in the invoices.

### Printing Invoice Documents

Once customers have submitted the order, the corresponding layout will be shown in POS app. There, store associates can select the Invoice button and print out the document.

### Reprints

Customers can also ask for an invoice at a later time after order submission. Store associates can give these by going to Order History, and then selecting the order for which they want to submit an invoice document. After tapping on "Receipt Options", associates will be taken to the Order Confirmation layout, where the "Print Invoice" button configured in CMS will be shown.

### Changing Customer Information

It is also possible to change the customer information captured for an order. To do so, navigate to Order History, and then search for the desired order. See [Capturing Customer Information for Sales](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_pos_settings_customer_info_sales.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Configure a layout to show customer information such as name, email address, address, and other details to show associates in the Point of Sale (POS) app during a sale.") for more details.

### Document Structure

Invoice documents will look very much alike regular receipts. The differences are

- Invoice documents will show the text in the setting Invoice Metadata Text instead of Metadata Text in the receipt configuration
- The header of the paper will be "INVOICE" instead of "SALE" or "RETURN"

### Offline

POS app allows for printing invoice documents during offline transactions as well. When completing an offline order, the flow is the same as if it was an online transaction. The Order Confirmation layout will be shown, where the "Print Invoice" button may be used.

### Invoice Metadata

Depending on the country's requirements for an invoice document, you can set up the invoice metadata setting to show the values as needed. Some of the common PS tags needed for invoices are:

- Invoice number - :ps\_receipt\_id
- Invoice date - :ps\_current\_timestamp
- Customer name - :ps\_first\_name and :ps\_last\_name
- Order email address - :ps\_order\_email\_address
- Customer address - :ps\_profile\_addressline1, :ps\_profile\_addressline2, and :ps\_profile\_addressline3
- Customer TAX ID - :ps\_customer\_tax\_id

These tags resolve the customer information captured against the sale, including guest customer information attached to the transaction. The tags don't require a pre-existing or persisted customer profile to resolve, even though they use the historical `:ps_profile_*` prefix.

`:ps_person_id`, `:ps_customer_addressline1`, `:ps_customer_addressline2`, and `:ps_customer_addressline3` aren't supported tags. Unsupported or unrecognized receipt tags print literally on the invoice instead of resolving to a value.

To capture the address and tax ID that these tags require, add the corresponding fields to your Customer Information Capture layout. See [Capturing Customer Information for Sales in Point of Sale](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_pos_settings_customer_info_sales.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Configure a layout to show customer information such as name, email address, address, and other details to show associates in the Point of Sale (POS) app during a sale.").

Hard code values that don’t need real-time substitution into the Invoice Metadata text. Examples of substition are the legal entity name, or the company's tax identification.
