## Switching Between Tap to Pay and a Terminal

An associate can switch between Tap to Pay and a connected terminal in two ways on a register configured to use Tap to Pay: from Device Manager, and, if the deep link is configured, from the Cart Options layout. See here for how to configure the deep link in Point of Sale CMS.

Note If the app switches to offline mode, the default card payment type will change to terminal. But it can be switched back to Tap to pay from either the Device Manager screen or from the new deep link "Switch Payment Hardware" on the cart screen.

1. From the Device Manager screen, under Payments, select the Tap to Pay tile to use Tap to Pay for card payments.![The Tap to Pay tile in the Device Manager](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-commerce-retail-264-0-0-production-enus/17d647fb-8988-49fb-9add-c4f4cc79c9e4/retail/images/rt_cms_hardware_tap_pay_tile.png)
2. App items to the cart and tap Checkout (or the Card tile) to initialize Tap to Pay.![The Tap to Pay Checkout option in the Device Manager](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-commerce-retail-264-0-0-production-enus/17d647fb-8988-49fb-9add-c4f4cc79c9e4/retail/images/rt_cms_hardware_tap_pay_checkout.png)
3. When the Done checkmark shows, the payment is complete.![A tap to pay payment approval message](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-commerce-retail-264-0-0-production-enus/17d647fb-8988-49fb-9add-c4f4cc79c9e4/retail/images/rt_cms_hardware_tap_pay_approved.png)
4. To switch to a terminal from Tap to Pay, in the Device Manager screen, under Payments, select the Terminal tile to use a terminal for card payments. The list of terminals will appear below, from which you can select an existing device or add a new one.![The Terminal Tile in the Device Manager](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-commerce-retail-264-0-0-production-enus/17d647fb-8988-49fb-9add-c4f4cc79c9e4/retail/images/rt_cms_hardware_terminal_tile.png)

### Switch to Terminal Without Going through Device Manager

An associate who's checking out customers might want to switch from Tap to Pay to a terminal without going to the Device Manager. If the _Switch Payment Hardware_ deep link is added to the cart options, associates can make the switch as follows.

1. From the Cart Options, selet the deep link.![A deep link to be selected in the Cart Options screen](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-commerce-retail-264-0-0-production-enus/17d647fb-8988-49fb-9add-c4f4cc79c9e4/retail/images/rt_cms_hardware_tap_pay_deep_link.png)
2. Select Terminal. There are two options for your selected payment type. 'Use Once' will use the selected payment type (terminal in this case) for a single credit card transaction. This is recommended if you expect most shoppers to pay by card and specifically using a contactless method. This way, after using the terminal to check out the odd customer needing to swipe their card or whose card cannot be read by Tap to Pay, the POS will automatically be set to use Tap to PAy on the very next order. On the other hand, the 'Use Until I Change It' option will use the selected payment type (terminal in this case) for all transactions until manually changed via the Device Manager or deep link.![The POS app showing the option to switch from Tap to Pay to a secure terminal.](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-commerce-retail-264-0-0-production-enus/17d647fb-8988-49fb-9add-c4f4cc79c9e4/retail/images/rt_cms_hardware_tap_pay_terminal_no_dm.png)

## Multi-tendering

In the multitender flow, credit cards will be processed with the payment hardware type that is currently selected in Device Manager–whether Tap to Pay or a connected terminal. The payment hardware type selected must be used for the whole order.

## Additional Information

If this is the first time using Tap to Pay on a particular device, the initiation process is longer (about two minutes). The user is shown the progress with the message, "Performing Initial setup: x%".

After setting up and creating the request, the iPhone will prompt for the payment with the amount to pay along with the brand's name.![An iPhone prompting a card holder to tap the iPhone to pay.](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-commerce-retail-264-0-0-production-enus/17d647fb-8988-49fb-9add-c4f4cc79c9e4/retail/images/rt_cms_hardware_tap_pay_iphone.jpg)

## Tips and Tricks

Each card is different. Contactless cards sometimes have to be placed on the iPhone in different ways. Placing the card in landscape mode on the iPhone shows the highest success rate.

From time to time, you may see issues accepting payment. Using landscape orientation will help in these cases.

Depending on the country and the amount of the payment, card issuers sometimes specify PIN as a CVM. In these cases, cards may have to be accepted via a digital wallet (eg. Apple Pay) or on a traditional terminal.

Customers can use Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, or Google Pay to pay with Tap to Pay on iPhone. The CVM is performed on the device itself.

Thus far, we’ve seen a high authorization rate for Tap to Pay payments. In the rare instance where a card is declined and a digital wallet isn’t available, use your standard terminal to accept payment.
