# Network Tethering Using Epson Printers

Use network tethering to connect your register to a network via an Epson printer if Wi-Fi is unstable or there are limited ethernet ports. Connect the register to the printer using a USB cable for a stable and reliable Point of Sale (POS) system, while also charging the iOS device.

## Epson Printers and Network Tethering

Epson printers provide another alternative for Ethernet connection. The network tethering offers a network connection to the register that is connected to the printer using a Lightning (or USB-C) to USB-A cable. This enables a stable and reliable operation of the POS system. In addition, the iOS device can be charged at the same time.

## Using Network Tethering

- If the stores have unstable Wi-Fi and seek a stable ethernet connection.
- If the stores have a shortage of ethernet ports and want to use a common ethernet port for both printer and register.

Epson Printer Models supported are TM-m30II, TM-m30II-H or TM-m30II-NT

The speed of the wired network communication using network tethering is about five Mbps or lower. Depending on the environment, the speed is slower than Wi-Fi communication.

## Prerequisites

- Epson Printer firmware: 3.03A ESC/POS or later, or 3.03B ESC/POS or later
- Install Epson TM Utility app from the App Store

## Check and Enable Network Tethering

- Open the Epson TM Utility app on your register and check if your printer is selected at the top. If not, select through to find your printer and select it.
- After selection, select "**Change Printer Settings" > "Interface"**.
- Find "**Network Tethering**" and check if you see Enabled or Disabled.
- If turned off, select **Network Tethering** and an option to select **Enabled** or **Disabled** appears.
- Select "**Set to printer**" button at the bottom right.

## Printer to iOS Device Connection

- Connect the printer to a wired network.
- Turn on the printer, and then wait until the Ethernet LED stops flashing and stays on.
- On the iOS device, tap **Settings > Wi-Fi > Disable Wi-Fi**.
- Connect the iOS device to the printer using a Lightning (or USB-C) to USB-A cable. Make sure to connect the cable to the USB-A Device Charging connector that is marked iPad.
- On the iOS device, tap **Settings > Ethernet**, and then check that an IP address has been set.
- If a DHCP server isn't used on the network, set the IP address and subnet mask manually.

## Troubleshooting

If the Orange Warning LED stays on the printer after connecting to the iPad, follow these instructions:

- Check the TM Utility app to make sure the printer is on the latest firmware.
- If the firmware is the latest, power cycle the printer by powering it off and powering it back on again.
