# Set Up Vertex Tax Exemption for Point of Sale

Configure tax exemption for Point of Sale, including partial tax exemption and fees, both supported in online mode. Offline mode uses previously downloaded tax rates.

## Configure Exemption in the Vertex Portal

Define exemptions for specific products or customers.

1. Go to **My Enterprise** | **Customers**.
2. Click **Add** to create a code for exempted customers.
3. Enter a **Code** and **Name** (for example, C for Tribal Government).
4. Under **Taxpayer**, select an entity created in [Create Taxpayer Entity](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_tax_vertex_setup.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5).
5. Under **Taxability**, set it to "100% Exempt".

## Connect the Exemption in POS CMS

Link the Vertex exempt code to Point of Sale so CMS applies it during checkout.

1. Go to **Store Management** | **Tax** | **Tax Exemption Configuration**
2. Create an exemption by referring to this article.
3. Ensure the **Exempt Code** field matches the value in the **Code** field set up in [Configure Exemption in the Vertex Portal](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_tax_vertex_tax_exemption.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5).
