- Modern POS App Build: 10.2.1 or greater
- Platform Support: iPad & iPhone
- Offline Support: Yes
- Technical:
    - Vertex account with tax rates already configured.
    - Product Feed file with a column for [Vertex Tax Code](https://tax-calc-api.vertexcloud.com/api/docs/index.html#section/Authentication).

To begin using Vertex for tax calculations, follow these steps in your [Vertex portal](https://app.vertexcloud.com/ui/calc-config/supplies/2024-07-10/my-enterprise/taxpayers). For further details or assistance with the setup process, reach out to a Vertex representative.

Next, [set up the tax engine in CMS](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_tax_vertex_cms_setup.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Connect Vertex to Point of Sale by configuring the tax engine in CMS.") to connect Vertex to Point of Sale.

## Create Taxpayer Entity

The taxpayer entity is the parent configuration that all other settings link to.

1. Log in to your [Vertex portal](https://app.vertexcloud.com/ui/calc-config/supplies/2024-07-10/my-enterprise/taxpayers) and select your app.
2. Go to **My Enterprise** | **Taxpayers**.
3. Click **Add** to create a taxpayer, then enter a unique **Company Code** and **Name** for the taxpayer.
4. Specify where the taxpayer is registered to collect tax (for example, all US states) and save the taxpayer entity.

## Configure Product Classes

Define how different types of products are taxed.

1. Go to **My Enterprise** | **Taxability Drivers Management** | **Taxability Drivers**.
2. Click **Add** and set the **Driver Type** as "Product Class."
3. Enter a **Code** and **Name** for the product class (for example, Generic for clothing).

The value entered for Code must match the column value configured in CMS for tax.field. Refer to [Configure Product Field Mapping](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_tax_vertex_product_field_mapping.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Map the tax class attribute from your product feed to a custom field so Point of Sale can calculate taxes correctly in offline mode.") for more details.
4. Under **Taxpayer**, select the entity you created in [Create Taxpayer Entity](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_tax_vertex_setup.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5).
5. Under **Taxability**, define the taxability for the product class (for example, "Generally Taxable").

## Map Product Classes to Categories

Make certain product classes are correctly mapped to Vertex categories for accurate tax calculation.

1. Go to **Tax Setup** | **Taxability Mapping**.
2. Click **Add**.
3. Under **Entities**, set it to "**Product Class**".
4. Select the Product Class and map it to the appropriate Vertex category (for example, clothing).
