Complete [Set Up Vertex](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_tax_vertex_setup.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Configure your taxpayer entity, product classes, and category mappings in the Vertex portal before connecting Vertex to Point of Sale.") in the Vertex portal before configuring the tax engine in CMS.

Configure the Vertex tax engine in CMS.

1. In CMS, go to **Integrations** | **Tax Engine Configurations**.
2. Click **Create** in the upper right.
3. Under **General Settings**, configure the fields by referring to the details below:
    1. Under **Tax Engine**, select "**Vertex**".
    2. Under **Environment**, select the type of account (for example, testing or live (Production)).
    3. Under **Currency**, select the currency code (for example, USD).
4. Under **Connectivity and Authentication**, configure the fields by referring to the details below:
    1. Under **Base URL**, enter [Vertex's Series Cloud Transaction Calls](https://tax-calc-api.vertexcloud.com/resources/index.html)) URI (for example, https://calcconnect.vertexsmb.com/vertex-ws/v2. To learn more on Vertex supported endpoints, refer to [Supported Vertex Endpoints](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_tax_vertex_endpoints.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Point of Sale calls these Vertex endpoints during tax engine setup verification and during checkout tax calculation.").

        ![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-commerce-retail-264-0-0-production-enus/17d647fb-8988-49fb-9add-c4f4cc79c9e4/images/icon_note.png)

Note Point of Sale supports V2 for Online API. For Offline, this depends on the version of the Vertex rate file being used.
    2. Under **Access Token URL**, enter Vertex's authentication endpoint (e.g., https://auth.vertexsmb.com/identity/connect/token). To learn more on Vertex supported endpoints, refer to [Supported Vertex Endpoints](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_tax_vertex_endpoints.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Point of Sale calls these Vertex endpoints during tax engine setup verification and during checkout tax calculation.").
    3. Under **Merchant Gateway ID**, enter your Vertex account's Client ID, located in your Vertex portal under **Settings** | **Security & Credentials**.
    4. Under **Merchant Key**, enter your Vertex account's Client Secret, located in your Vertex portal under **Settings** | **Security & Credentials**. If you need to specify the key's validity in seconds, note that while the official token expires after 1200 seconds, Point of Sale's backend is set to 1000 seconds. After reaching this limit, a new token is automatically generated by calling Vertex. The connector configuration in the CMS updates automatically to ensure proper tax calculation.
    5. Under **In Store Merchant Reference Code**, provide the Company Code configured for your in-store taxpayer entity in [Create Taxpayer Entity](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_tax_vertex_setup.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5).
    6. Under **Online Merchant Reference Code**, provide the Company Code configured for your online taxpayer entity in [Create Taxpayer Entity](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.rt_adv_config_3p_int_tax_vertex_setup.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5).
    7. Optionally, click **Verify** to validate your credentials and connectivity.
