# Selective Origin Shielding

To restrict access to PODs not originating from the Commerce Cloud content delivery network (eCDN) and increase site security and availability, we’re implementing selective origin shielding (SOS). SOS prevents bots from accessing the origin outside the eCDN.

When: SOS is implemented in phases.

Phase 1: Net new customers (realms)–Target June 14, 2021

Who: SOS is enabled by default for all new customer realms created after June 14 2021.

How: Review your current implementation for calls that are intentionally made with direct IP for our PODs or if you’re using host names dot format for \*.demandware.net. For example, production.\*.demandware.net (http://production.xxx.demandware.net/).

To avoid impact caused by this change, switch these calls to use your vanity host name.
