# Use New Access Token Format for API Clients

API Client ID configuration for On-Demand Sandbox clients now uses JSON Web Token (JWT) as the Access Token Format.

**Why:** To reduce latency and improve Account Manager performance, our supported authentication methods now use JSON Web tokens (JWTs) for API server authentication. Using JWTs replaces the use of opaque tokens (UUIDs). This change requires updating Access Token Format settings for existing On-Demand Sandbox API clients from UUID to JWT.

**How:** For information about API Client settings, see [Configure an API Client](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/commerce/b2c-commerce/guide/b2c-get-started-sandboxes.html). To change the Access Token Format setting for any On-Demand Sandbox API Client using a `UUID` setting:

1. Log into Account Manager.
2. Click **API Client**.

The API Clients page shows a list of API clients.
3. Click an existing On-Demand Sandbox API client.

The API Client page for the selected client opens.
4. Locate the OpenID Connect section.
5. For any client using an Access Token Format setting of UUID, change the setting to JWT.

Account Manager uses the JWT setting when you add any new On-Demand Sandbox API clients. For instructions on how to add API clients, see [Add an API Client](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_account_manager_add_api_client_id.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
