# Look Up and Adjust Inventory with AI Tools

Check real-time Omnichannel Inventory availability for a stock keeping unit (SKU) and correct quantities in one conversation. With headless Order Management, the AI client reads the group rollup and per-location breakdown, applies your change, and rereads availability to confirm the result.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;"><a href="https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_editions.htm&amp;language=en_US" target="_blank">View supported editions</a>.</td></tr></tbody></table>

To read availability and correct inventory, you usually open the inventory record, interpret on-hand, reserved, and safety stock values, and edit a location by hand. With headless Order Management, an inventory manager can do that work in a conversation and see exactly how a change moves the available-to-order and available-to-fulfill numbers.

Note Because an AI client uses large language models, which are probabilistic, results can vary from one run to the next. If you get an unexpected result, describe to the agent what happened so that it can help you diagnose and adjust. You don't need a specific model.

## Scenario

Pixel Point Retail is running a flash sale and a store manager reports that a popular boot looks oversold in the US-West region. Marcus, an inventory manager, asks the AI client for the current inventory for the SKU in that location group. In one request, the agent returns the group rollup and the per-location breakdown, showing overly high safety stock at the Dallas location. Marcus asks the agent to lower it. The agent applies the change, rereads availability, and confirms the new available-to-order value. That takes about a minute, and Marcus never opens an inventory record. Marcus also asks the agent for a reminder to reset the value after the sale.

## Requirements

Complete the shared setup in [AI Agent Use Cases for Order Management](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_steelthread_overview.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Use an AI agent to set up Order Management and complete common Order Management tasks conversationally, such as finding and canceling order items.").

This use case also needs:

- Omnichannel Inventory configured with locations, location groups, and inventory records.
- The Omnichannel Inventory Manager permission set. Users need that permission set, or the System Administrator profile, to access Omnichannel Inventory features. Order Management Operations Manager also includes the Use Omnichannel Inventory API permission. Order Management: Agent without Omnichannel Inventory and Order Management: Operations Manager without Omnichannel Inventory don't include inventory functionality, so they can't complete this use case.
- SKU identifiers that match between your storefront and Omnichannel Inventory.

The inventory functionality comes from the **Salesforce Order Management APIs** (Generally Available), which read Omnichannel Inventory availability and update inventory records. This use case is recommended for inventory and operations managers. It assumes familiarity with on-hand, reserved, safety stock, available-to-order, and available-to-fulfill.

## Agentic Tips

- Describe your goal in your own words. For example:
    - "What's the current inventory for SKU BOOT-WOMENS-BRN-8 in group US-West?"
    - "How many of BOOT-WOMENS-BRN-8 are available to order in US-West, and why so few?"
    - "Lower the safety stock for this SKU to 50 at the Dallas location."
- Include the SKU, the location group or location, and the new value.
- Have the agent read availability before it acts. Apply one change, and then have the agent reread availability to verify the effect.
- Approve each change. Review and confirm each write before the agent applies it.
- Ask the agent to remind you to reset a temporary change.
- Avoid pasting credentials into a prompt. The agent acts as your authenticated user through the connected org.

## Design Considerations

- Omnichannel Inventory derives availability values. When you change one value, such as safety stock, the agent rereads and shows how available-to-order and available-to-fulfill changed as a result.

## Look Up and Adjust a SKU

Look up inventory for a SKU and correct a value.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;"><a href="https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_editions.htm&amp;language=en_US" target="_blank">View supported editions</a>.</td></tr></tbody></table>

1. Confirm that your AI client is connected to Omnichannel Inventory as an authenticated user with permission to read and write inventory records.
2. Ask the agent for the current inventory for a SKU in a location group.

The agent returns the group rollup—on-hand, reserved, safety stock, available to order, and available to fulfill—along with the per-location breakdown.
3. Ask the agent to correct a value, such as safety stock at a specific location. Review and confirm the change.
4. Let the agent update the inventory record and reread availability.

The agent confirms the update and shows the refreshed availability values. You can see that the adjustment took effect and how it changed the quantities available to order and fulfill.
