# Payments for Exchanges with RMA

Because an exchange can result in a partial refund for the customer, you must configure payments to process this refund. You can find payment activity in the order payment summary for each order.

Previous step: [Add a Web Store Inventory Source for Exchanges with RMA (B2C Only)](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_webstore_inventory_source_exchanges_rma.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "To use reservations when adding a new item to an exchange order, add a web store inventory source. Reservations help reduce out-of-stock errors by holding a product as soon as it’s placed in a cart.")

See all steps in [Exchanges with RMA Setup](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_exchanges_rma_setup.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "After you have installed and configured either an Order Management, B2B Commerce, or D2C Commerce org, configure Exchanges with RMA Returns.").

There are three ways to configure a payment service. You can use Salesforce Payments, you can use an AppExchange service, or you can configure your own. Depending on what Commerce product you’re using, the setup can vary.

To configure a payment service for B2B or D2C Commerce, first add a payment service for store checkout. If you’re using Salesforce Payments, add a payment service before connecting Salesforce Payments to Exchanges RMA.

To configure a payment gateway for B2C Commerce, either configure Salesforce Payments for Exchanges RMA or set up a payment service.

Before configuring Salesforce Payments to work with B2C, B2B, or D2C Commerce, ensure you’ve fully installed and implemented Salesforce Payments.

Unlike a simple exchange, which only allows for same-cost variant exchanges, an exchange with RMA processes the return of the previous product before letting a customer service representative (CSR) order a new item, enter a new delivery address, and select a shipping method, all on behalf of the user. Finally, the CSR can process any refund or additional funds needed from the customer.")
