# Order Management Lifecycle

As an order moves through the order lifecycle, it progresses through four stages: capture, fulfillment, delivery, and post fulfillment. These stages determine which services you can perform on an order. Managed and unmanaged orders are processed differently during the order lifecycle.

- **[Order Management Lifecycle Stages](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_order_lifecycle_stages.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Each order in Order Management moves through a series of stages that collectively make up the order lifecycle.
- **[Order Management Lifecycle Types](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_order_lifecycle_types.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
An order summary’s lifecycle type specifies whether you manage it with Order Management features.
- **[Order Management Lifecycle Statuses](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_lifecycle_object_status.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Each object type has status categories with default statuses that reflect the order lifecycle. Find these statuses in Object Manger, in the Statuses section of an object type. You can’t change the status categories, but you can customize and add statuses as long as you associate each status with a status category. Having status categories that never change is helpful if you have custom processes that depend on a record’s status category.
- **[Choose the Lifecycle Type for an Order](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_choosing_the_lifecycle_type_for_an_order.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
You set the lifecycle type for an order when you create an order summary.
