# Create a Markdown Avoidance Rule

A markdown avoidance reduces the risk of products selling at a discounted price by shipping products from locations at risk of future discounts. To implement a markdown avoidance, create a markdown avoidance rule in the Markdown Avoidance tab, sync it, and then add it to a rule group.

### Required Editions

Before beginning this task, make sure the [Order Fulfillment Setup section](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_enable_order_management_setup.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "The Order Fulfillment Setup section is the landing page for all components of Commerce Delivery Service (CDS).") is enabled.

1. In the Markdown Avoidance tab of Order Fulfillment Setup, click **New**.
2. Enter a name, external reference, and description.
3. Set a start and end date, which determines how long the rule prioritizes the at-risk locations.
4. Score your rule. The score is assigned to locations that fit the rule’s conditions. Locations with higher scores are prioritized during routing.
5. Click **Next**.
6. Select whether the rule applies to specific products or all products in the specified locations.
7. If you selected **Specific Products or Categories**, select the products or categories.
8. Click **Next**.
9. Add locations that are at risk of a price markdown.
10. Click **Save**.
11. Sync your markdown avoidance.

After you’ve created your markdown avoidance, [add it to a rule group](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.om_new_rule_group.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Control Order Management routing by creating and publishing groups of templated or custom rules.") and assign it a weight. The rule group calculates each rule’s weight with the location scores to select the best locations for fulfillment.
