When an order is placed, Omnichannel Inventory reserves inventory to fill that order.
Because a reservation can be held at a location group, the system considers that one or more of
the group’s member locations can also be a member of another location group. Before the
reservation is routed to an individual location, the system first attempts to allocate a location
group reservation to individual locations that aren’t shared.
Required Editions
If the non-shared locations are full or not available, the reservation is allocated to a
shared location. The reservation is then included in the location’s other location group
reservation counts. Because the common location is a potential option to fulfill the order, the
reservation is held at all groups where product availability can be impacted by the reservation.
When reservations fall into this state, they’re counted as shared group reservations in the
Omnichannel Inventory Availability API responses.
After routing occurs to an individual location, the reservation is reflected only in that
location, and the resulting availability is aggregated up into the impacted location groups.
When the reservation is fulfilled, all reservation counts are cleared.
