# Cap Safety Stock

Safety stock acts as a buffer to control a location’s inventory and reduce the risk of running out of stock. Although safety stock works on a location level, it aggregates up to the group level and can impact other locations in the group. A safety stock quantity that exceeds a location’s on-hand stock can limit the available stock across the network when it aggregates to the group. Prevent underselling by capping your safety stock to prevent it from exceeding on-hand counts.

Safety stock caps apply to existing inventory counts within the service and to future inventory updates. If you enable safety stock caps after importing your inventory, the location-level safety stock adjusts to the on-hand amount for each product at each location. Enabling safety stocks to an existing inventory is a resource-intensive process. We recommend enabling the feature only after you’ve considered all potential impacts of bulk-editing safety stock.

1. Click ![Setup](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-commerce-inv_omnichannel_inventory-264-0-0-production-enus/43699e0f-a394-4b55-a1eb-072df389499a/inv_omnichannel_inventory/images/om_setup_icon_no_border.png) at the top of the page, and then select **Setup**.
2. In the Quick Find box, find and select **Omnichannel Inventory**.
3. Enable **Location Aggregation Safety Stock Cap**.

Because of the resource-intensive nature of enabling safety stock caps, you can’t manually disable the feature after you’ve enabled it. To disable safety stock caps, contact Salesforce Customer Support.
