Setting up tax calculations for your B2B store ensures compliance with regional tax requirements, exempt certificates, VAT, and real-time rate changes during checkout. Salesforce B2B Commerce provides flexible options to calculate taxes based on your business model and operational needs.
Depending on your store configuration and complexity, you can choose from three approaches to manage tax calculation in checkout:
- Salesforce Tax Solution (with Stripe): Automatically calculate tax rates at checkout using Stripe as your integrated third-party tax provider. This solution automatically assesses order taxes based on buyer and seller locations, product types, and reverse tax rules.
- Tax Service Extensions and Calculator Services: Connect your B2B store to custom or third-party tax calculation services (such as Avalara or Vertex) using Apex tax service extensions. Service extensions map cart details to external tax engines for advanced global compliance.
- Manual Salesforce Tax Solution: Calculate basic gross taxes (where tax is included in products prices) using built-in tax engines, tax policies, tax treatments, and custom tax rates mapped to geographic rules.
- Select Salesforce Tax Solution and Set Up a Tax Provider
Use the Salesforce tax solution to automatically calculate tax rates, by mapping a third-party tax calculation service, such as Stripe, to your B2B store checkout. - Tax Service Extensions and Calculator Services
Taxes in a B2B store often consider exempt certificates, VAT, regional jurisdictions, and real time rate changes. To handle this complex tax calculation and ensure compliance and accuracy, you can use a provider-extension model. - Manual Salesforce Tax Solution
You can set up taxes for your B2B store by using the manual Salesforce tax solution. The manual tax solution is available only with a custom checkout configuration. Configure tax rates and tax treatments and assign them to the store’s tax policy.
