# Create Boost and Bury Rules

A strategic management of product listings in B2B makes sure that shoppers see the most relevant products first. Use boost and bury rules to align your search results and category pages with your business goals, like stock management, new product promotions, or selling high-value products. Select specific products manually or define attribute-based conditions to apply rules to matching products dynamically.

While creating a boost and bury rule, keep these considerations in mind.

- After you create or edit a rule, run a full update of the commerce search index so that the rule takes effect. See [Update the Commerce Search Index](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.comm_search_index_build.htm&language=en_US).
- If multiple rules have the same target category or target search keyword, all the rules apply.
- Avoid creating conflicting rules. For example, don't create a boost rule and a bury rule for the same product and category.
- General updates to product categories don’t automatically update boost or bury rules. Update the rules if a product category change no longer aligns with the rule conditions.
- If [Semantic Search](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.comm_einstein_semantic_search_top.htm&language=en_US) is enabled, there’s no guarantee that products show up in the same positions in search results, though results are broadly accurate.

1. In the navigation sidebar, select a store from the Store dropdown.
2. Select **Merchandising** | **Product Curation**.
3. Click **New**.
4. In the New Rule window, select the type of boost or bury rule you want to create.

    - Storewide—Included products are boosted or buried wherever they appear in your store. Limit to 25 storewide rules.
    - Category—Included products are boosted or buried within the target category. Limit to 50 category rules.
    - Keyword—Included products are boosted or buried within the search results of the target search keyword. Limit to 50 keyword rules.

After you save the rule, you can’t update the type.
5. If you’ve selected a category or keyword type rule, enter the target category or target search keyword.

After you save the rule, you can’t update the target.
6. Enter a name.

After you save the rule, you can’t update the name.
7. Assign a start and end date.
8. Enter a locale. Rules are locale-specific. If your store supports multiple locales, create a rule for each required locale. If the same rule needs to be applied for all locales, use the All Locales option.
9. Use the slider to select the boost or bury score. '
10. In the Product Selection section, select how to identify products for this rule.

    - Rule Criteria—Define conditions based on product attributes to boost or bury matching products. The rule dynamically applies to all products that meet the defined conditions. If you select Rule Criteria:

    1. For **Apply Rule When**, select whether the rule applies when any condition matches or all conditions match.
    2. For each condition, select a resource, such as Brand or Color, an operator such as Equals or Contains, and enter a value.

You can select only product attributes that are configured as searchable or filterable.
    3. Click **Add Condition** to add more conditions. You can define up to 10 conditions per rule.
    4. (Optional) Click **Preview Results** to review the products that match your conditions before saving the rule.

    - Manual Selection—Select specific products to boost or bury. If you select Manual Selection, assign single products. Don't add product sets, bundles, or product variation parent or child products. There's a maximum of 100 products per rule.
11. Click **Save**.

Run a full update of the commerce search index to apply the new or updated rule to your store.
