Use Simplified, Consistent File Retention Rules

New file retention rules are available for files in the /Logs, /Securitylogs, /Impex, and /Temp folders. Previously, different folders, instances, and environments used different file retention periods or no retention period at all. The new retention logic will be enabled after the 20.7 release. Download and save files you want to retain for longer than the new retention period.

What: During the transition to the new retention logic, some instances have /Impex/_trash and /Temp/_trash folders that contain the files to be deleted for 30 days. You can recover files from the _trash folders during that 30 days. Adjust your configuration so that you don't depend on the files in the _trash folders since those files will be removed in a future release.

The new retention periods are as follows:

  • /Logs: Files are compressed and moved into subfolder log_archive after three days. Files are deleted after 30 days.
  • /Securitylogs: Files are deleted after 90 days.
  • /Impex and /Temp: Files are deleted after 30 days. Use the space in these folders carefully. Delete unnecessary files as soon as possible.

To avoid performance and stability problems, you can’t store more than 100,000 files in a folder. If there are more than 100,000 files in a folder, files are deleted starting with the oldest first even if the files are newer than the retention period for the folder. The 100,000 limit applies to files in one specific folder, not across subfolders.
