# Notify Search Engines About Your B2C Commerce Sitemap

After successfully creating a sitemap for a storefront, submit the sitemap to main search engines manually. Register with the Google Sitemaps program and submit your sitemap. Use this program also to see some interesting statistics about your site, such as the most used keywords and any spidering problems.

Note Although this topic deals specifically with Google, all search engines have a similar procedure. To extend SEO, in addition to submitting your sitemap to Google, you can also submit it to Yahoo and other search engines.

1. If you don't already have a search engine account, create one. For Google, search on "Webmaster Tools". Create your account on the Webmaster Tools page.
2. Log in to your search engine account.
3. On the Dashboard page, enter the URL for your site.
4. On the Overview page, click the **Verify Your Site** link.
5. Register your site with the search engine.
6. Place the location of your `sitemap_index.xml` file in your `robots.txt` file.

Google checks your sitemap for updates regularly, so submit your sitemap only once.

Although you produce new sitemaps on a regular schedule, Google only updates its links after requesting the sitemap. If you produce sitemaps more frequently than Google checks for updates, ping their sitemap server to notify Google about the updates.
