# Prepare Attributes for Boost and Bury Rules

Prepare your B2C site to create boost and bury rules in Visual Merchandising.

Note Boost and bury rules require the **Enable Boost and Bury for Search** feature switch. To target active data attributes in a rule, also turn on the **Enable Active Data for Boost and Bury** feature switch. Salesforce enables active data support for realms in phases. If **Enable Active Data for Boost and Bury** is available in your realm, an administrator can turn it on in Business Manager when **Enable Boost and Bury for Search** is on. If the feature switch isn't visible, contact Salesforce to request that it's enabled for your realm. For more information about feature switches, see [Set Feature Switches (Toggles) in B2C Commerce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_feature_switches.htm&language=en_US).

If you have multiple attributes with the same attribute ID, you can boost only one of the attributes.

1. In Business Manager, click App Launcher ![App Launcher](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-cc-b2c_merchandiser_administrator-264-0-0-production-enus/ea76f372-6cfa-42a6-8e7c-05c6df7abed8/cc/b2c_merchandiser_administrator/images/appLauncher.png), and then select **Merchant Tools** | **Site** | **Products and Catalog** | **Visual Merchandising**.

If Visual Merchandising isn’t available, contact your Salesforce admin.
2. Click **Preferences**.
3. Add each attribute that you plan to use as a target.

You can use only indexed attributes that are exposed to Visual Merchandising in rule criteria. See [Generate Search Indexes](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_generating_search_indexes.htm&language=en_US).
4. Save your changes.
5. Rebuild the search index.

Rebuilding makes sure that you can target the newly exposed attributes in boost and bury rules. Rebuild the search index once for each new boostable attribute that you add. See [Updating Indexes](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_updating_indexes.htm&language=en_US).
