# Create Campaigns and Promotions in B2C Commerce

To create a complete marketing and promotional campaign, start by setting an overall goal and then break down the tasks involved.

1. Create an experience of one of these types: promotions, slot configurations, and sorting rules.

    For example, create:

    - A promotion that provides a sale for customers who have held accounts for more than five years.
    - A slot configuration that targets the content that an unregistered customer sees on your storefront.
    - A sorting rule that defines the order in which search results appear.
2. [Create a promotion](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_creating_a_promotion.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "To create product, shipping, and order promotions, the overall steps are the same, but with different rule specifications."). A promotion can be site wide or triggered by a qualifier. Apply promotions to products, entire orders, or shipping.

    For example:

    - Buy two shirts and get one shirt at no additional cost.
    - Spend over $100 and get 20% off.
    - Add ties to your order and get shipping at no additional cost.
3. To further control your promotions, define qualifiers, such as [coupons](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_using_coupons_as_qualifiers.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "To qualify users for B2C Commerce storefront promotions, you can use coupons. You can generate coupons by using B2C Commerce, sources external to B2C Commerce, custom-defined coupons. You can also import and export coupon codes to external email marketing systems."), [customer groups](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_creating_a_customer_group.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create and edit customer groups and assign customers to them for marketing."), or [source codes](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_defining_source_code_groups.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create and configure a source code group in Business Manager, either manually or by import. Set the group's ID, validity dates, and cookie duration, then add the source-code specifications, redirects, and price books it controls.").
4. [Create a slot configuration](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_working_with_slot_configurations.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Two types of users participate in content slot development and implementation in Salesforce B2C Commerce: Merchants and Web Template developers."). Slot configurations target specific customers. For example, a content slot on your home page targets top shoppers.
5. [Create a sorting rule](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_creating_sorting_rules.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Implement personalized sorting rules within your B2C Commerce storefront."). Sorting rules define the order that your products show on the storefront. For example, you sort by top sellers, so a customer sees the highest selling products first.
6. [Create and populate a campaign](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_creating_a_campaign.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "A campaign acts as a wrapper for your promotions and qualifiers. When you create a campaign, define a schedule and qualifiers for an entire group of promotions or slot configurations."). For example, your Spring Fling campaign contains a promotion discounting sandals and flip flops and a sorting rule that sorts green products first. Customers trigger the promotion by using the coupon SPRINGFUN. The campaign runs the first month of spring.
    1. Add experiences to your campaign.
    2. Add qualifiers to your campaign.
    3. Schedule your campaign.
7. For each experience, complete these tasks:

    - For promotions, modify the schedule and assign customer groups, source codes, coupons, and rank.
    - For slot configurations, modify the schedule and assign customer groups and rank.
    - For sorting rules, assign one or more categories.
8. To determine the effectiveness of your promotions, content slots, and sorting rules, [create and run A/B Tests](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_creating_an_ab_test.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create A/B tests with multiple user groups, including a control group, and assign promotions, slot configurations, or category sorting rule overrides to each experience.").
9. Test your campaign and promotions on the storefront.
10. When you're satisfied with your campaign, make it available to your customers.
