# Create a Base Product

To create a base product in B2C Commerce, you create a base product first, then assign variation products to it. Scenario 1

1. Click App Launcher ![App Launcher](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-cc-b2c_merchandiser_administrator-264-0-0-production-enus/ea76f372-6cfa-42a6-8e7c-05c6df7abed8/cc/b2c_merchandiser_administrator/images/appLauncher.png), and then select **Merchant Tools** | **Products and Catalogs** | **Products**.
2. On the product search page, click **New**.
3. On the Product page, select the **General** tab and complete the product details as desired. Make sure that the Online and Searchable options are set to Yes.
4. Select the **Categories** tab and click **Edit Categories**.
5. Expand to the category where you want the new product variation assigned, and click **Apply**.
6. Select the **Inventory** tab and select the site to which you want to allocate product inventory and click **Create**.
7. Select **Perpetual.**
8. Set the Allocation amount and click **Create**.
9. Click **Back**.
10. Select the **Variations** tab, and assign variation products to the newly created product.

    Note For the base product to appear as a base product in the product list, you assign variation products to it.
