# Create a Category or Subcategory for B2C Commerce

Create categories and subcategories in Business Manager. A subcategory nests under an existing category, letting you build multiple layers that specify how your products show on your storefront.

1. Click App Launcher ![App Launcher](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-cc-b2c_merchandiser_administrator-264-0-0-production-enus/ea76f372-6cfa-42a6-8e7c-05c6df7abed8/cc/b2c_merchandiser_administrator/images/appLauncher.png), and then select **Merchant Tools** | **Site** | **Products and Catalogs** | **Catalogs**.
2. Open the location where you want to add the category.
    - To create a top-level category, click the catalog where you want to add the category.
    - To create a subcategory, click the existing category where you want to nest it.
3. On the Categories page, click **New**.
4. Enter a unique Category ID, and Name.
    
    Depending on your category settings, the category name can show in your storefront, and depending on your URL rules, the Category ID can appear in the URL.
5. To have the category show in your storefront, select the Online checkbox.
6. (Optional) enter a brief description of the category.
7. Click **Apply**.

    Note To show the category in the storefront menu navigation, you assign available products to the category, and select the Show in Menu Navigation checkbox under the Category Attributes tab.
8. To edit a category, click the category you want to edit. Make your changes and click **Apply**.
